Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill are interchangeable, basically

If “Finding Your Roots” ever returns to PBS, we’d like to suggest that the show nab Henry Cavill and Matt Bomer, because we’re convinced they must be not-so-distant cousins.

Just look at them.

Surely we’re not the only ones who see it, right? Even though Cavill probably has at least about a foot and 75 pounds on Bomer?

As it turns out, both of them were considered Superman material, too.

Obviously things worked out for Cavill, who suited up to play the man in blue for “Man of Steel” (and will again for the forthcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice“), but it turns out that Bomer was also once up for Superman in a Brett Ratner film written by J.J. Abrams.

In an interview on the “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast, Bomer, 37, revealed that he’d even screen-tested with Amy Adams, Cavill’s “Man of Steel” co-star, nearly 15 years ago and beat out Paul Walker and Brendan Fraser for the part.

“Thankfully, Brett chose me for the project and then it all fell apart,” he said. “It was a month of, ‘okay, it’s going to happen,’ and then it slowly fell apart. But it’s okay. I have zero regrets about that. I’ve gotten to do such a rich array of roles and so many different things and I haven’t been too locked in to one thing. That’s a very iconic role to portray. You can suddenly be that character in everyone’s minds forever.”

It’s not hard to see what Ratner was thinking. Bomer does looks like a textbook Clark Kent in these glasses, doesn’t he?
