Anthony Charles Edwards was born in Santa Barbara, California on July 19, 1962. Edwards, who was raised in an Irish family with roots in architecture, art, and design, was persuaded to go to college before committing his life to a career in acting.
He eventually received a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England, as well as at the University of Southern California. But, at the age of 19, he dropped out because his acting career was taking off.
Anthony revealed a tragic early life event in 2017. He claimed that Gary Goddard, the well-known producer who established the Landmark Entertainment Group, had repeatedly sexually assaulted him and a number of his friends in an essay posted on Medium. When Edwards was only 12 years old, the abuse started. He currently holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors for 1in6, a charity that aids men who have previously experienced unwanted or abusive sexual encounters.
Anthony’s early acting credits include appearances on television shows such as “It Takes Two.” He then made his film debut in the early 1980s with a fan-favorite cameo role as a stoner in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” Two years later, he starred in “Revenge of the Nerds” as the main character, Gilbert Lowell. He then returned in 1987’s “Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise,” but in a much smaller role.
